As we continued down Going to the Sun Road in our Red Bus Eastern Alpine Tour, we could see that Logan Pass was socked in with fog. When we parked in the lot, it was freezing and visibility was almost zero.
Logan Pass was named after Glacier National Park’s first superintendent. It is the highest point on Going to the Sun Road and is one of the most visited spots in the park.
When we were there with the red bus tour, there were kids skiing on the snow drifts. We grabbed a quick photo by the Continental Divide sign and the went into the visitor center to see the displays and get a souvenir pin.
The red bus headed back up Going to the Sun Road, making a stop at the lush Reynolds Creek Valley overlook. There were waterfalls everywhere we looked. The view here more than made up for the fog over Logan Pass.
We stopped by Logan Pass to see the view later in the week when there was no fog, in the early morning before the lot was crowded.
This time we were able to see Clements Mountain looming over the visitor center. From the other side of the lot, we could see the sun rising over Going to the Sun Mountain.

One of my favourite drives. Ahhh, the smell of burning breaks on the down hill. Great scenery. Allan
Thanks! On one of our trips down, we were behind some poor woman who was obviously terrified and white-knuckling it all the way. I’d be surprised if we went over 5 mph…great for us to take in the scenery. Not so much fun for my husband who was driving.
These were such amazing shots!!! This is one of the parks I want to visit. Logan’s Pass wow! How was that elevation treating you? You probably used to it visiting so many of nature’s hideouts. Thanks so much for posting your journey.
Thanks so much! The elevation wasn’t too bad…there was one hike in Many Glacier where we really felt it, but otherwise OK.

Enjoyed this visit to Logan Pass, T, thank you. I had the pleasure of visiting Glacier NP once some years back, and found its breathtaking views and scenery so delightful. There was an avalanche that happened in front of us making the GTTS road impassable, then we saw the most glorious thunderstorm. This park is a lively one, and from your photos it still continues to be so. Thanks for taking us there with you.
Thanks so much for commenting! Yes we really lucked out with timing as the road had just opened the day before our visit and wildfire closed it a month later
Fog can be a total view-kill. Luckily it didn’t seem to impact your entire trip as your pictures of the snowy mountains look phenomenal. Brings back memories. I love this national park.
Thanks! We really lucked out this trip. Last trip to Acadia, the fog never lifted which was disappointing.

I was there in the fall three years ago, and the fall colors made it even more beautiful.
I can imagine!😀
