Lake Placid Olympic Bobsled Experience»

Lake Placid, New York hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980. While staying in the area, we visited as many of the Olympic sites as possible. The bobsled complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg maintains the original 1932 run for the Olympic Bobsled Experience as well as a more modern track that was constructed for the 2000 Goodwill Games.

The newer track is still used for professional events while the 1930s track is the Lake Placid Bobsled Experience. We visited the complex for the Experience and first walked down the length of the modern track while we waited for our turn at the bobsled ride.

Once we were called, we were outfitted with helmets and sandwiched on the bobsled between a professional driver and brakeman. Since it was the summer, the sled was on wheels rather than runners. The ride down the mountain was a brief, but exhilarating experience. Scroll down to the You Tube video by Antney1108 at the bottom of this page…it was posted the same summer we were there.
