Welcome back to National Parks and other public lands with T!
Mokuaikaua Church, in historic Kailua Kona, is the oldest Christian church in Hawaii. The building was completed in 1837, but the congregation was founded in 1820 by American Christian Missionaries who had received permission from King Kamehameha II to teach Christianity.
The church was built from stones from a Heiau, or ancient Hawaiian temple. It is across the street from Huliheʻe Palace. The church still has an active congregation and is celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2020.
