Mystic Seaport was one of the country’s first living history museums. As we toured the various buildings and ships, we encountered costumed craftsmen who demonstrated the art of ship building, barrel-making, etc.

We took a short cruise on the Mystic River aboard the steamboat Sabino. Sabino was built in 1908 and is one of the last survivors of the Northeastern Mosquito Fleet. We also toured the Charles W. Morgan, the 1841 whaling ship that has served as the Seaport Museum’s centerpiece since the 1940s.

After a horse-drawn carriage ride through the town, we finished our day at the Seaport’s planetarium and a program on celestial navigation.
