Welcome back to National Parks and other public lands with T!
Lenape Trail in Presby Memorial Iris Gardens»
As parks began to re-open for passive recreation during the Covid-19 crisis, I decided to revisit the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens. I got there before 7 AM and pretty much had the park to myself. The park is open from dawn to dusk.
When I got there, I noticed blazes for a trail running across the park. This is the Lenape Trail, which stretches 36 miles from Newark to Millburn in Essex County, New Jersey.
This trail was created in 1980 to connect 19 county parks, beginning at Branch Brook Park (famous for its cherry blossoms) and ending at South Mountain Reservation.
Parts of the trail are on sidewalks. The section that runs through Presby enters from the street on Upper Mountain Avenue and follows the garden path across the park before continuing back onto the side streets.
