Wailua River State Park consists primarily of the Wailua River valley. The Wailua River is the only navigable river in Hawaii. The park offers kayaking on the river and riverboat cruises that take visitors to explore the rain forest.

Wailua was the land of the Ali’i (kings) and was King Kaumuali’i’s favorite place to live.  Ancient Hawaiian heiaus (temples) can be seen in the park, starting from the mouth of the river all the way to the summit of Mt.Waialeale.

The overlook on the highway, across the street from the ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls overlook. provide great views of the Wailua River and its green valley.
