Welcome back to National Parks and other public lands with T!
We visited the Nielson Wash after touring Cathedral Valley with Jen Howe from Red Rock Adventure Guides. After photographing the sunrise at the Temples of the Sun and Moon, we drove part of the Cathedral Valley Loop towards Caineville. Here and there we stopped to admire the scenery.

We could see the distinctive Factory Butte while driving on Route 24 to the main section of Capitol Reef. We pulled out on a dirt road leading to it and parked near the Nielson Wash.

Nielson Wash is a conduit for water during flash floods and heavy rains, so don’t approach if those conditions exist. When dry, it’s an otherworldly ravine with little alcoves carved out along the way. We walked through the wash a little ways and then returned to the car.

Interesting area! Thanks for sharing. Next time I’m in St. George I’ll have to extend my road trips from there.
So much to see out there!
