Welcome back to National Parks and other public lands with T!
DC Trip 2023➤
Washington, DC possesses the largest concentration of National Park Service units of any metropolitan area. I decided to use one of my long weekends in April to visit DC and check a few units off my list. I toured several memorials, monuments and other sites, including the Korean War Memorial.

Korean War Memorial➤
The Korean War Veterans Memorial, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., commemorates the people who served in the Korean War. The memorial was dedicated on July 27, 1995, on the 42nd anniversary of the armistice that ended the conflict.

A collection of 19 stainless steel statues form the central feature of the memorial. These statues, created by sculptor Frank Gaylord, represent a squad on patrol, and they are outfitted in full combat gear. The statues are positioned in a triangular formation, symbolizing the three branches of the U.S. military—Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The memorial also includes a Wall of Remembrance, which features 2,400 photographs of the men and women who served during the Korean War. The artist etched the images onto stainless steel panels, creating a reflective surface that allows visitors to see themselves alongside the faces of those who served.

I used those exact ponchos to deliver newspapers on Long Island — purchased from a Army Surplus store.
Bet it kept you dry!
