While visiting the area near Mystic, Connecticut, we stopped by Bluff Point State Park. The park occupies an 800 acre peninsula in the Long Island Sound. It was designated a coastal reserve in the 1970s and is one of the largest stretches of undeveloped coastline in Connecticut.

The trail to the point is wide and flat. It winds through a wooded area, where a hawk posed calmly for pictures in a nearby tree. It opens up into a windswept coastal marsh and rocky shoreline after about a mile or so.
