Welcome back to National Parks and other public lands with T!

On March 3, 1931, President Herbert Hoover signed into law the Star-Spangled Banner as our National Anthem. Other songs in use as an anthem up until that point were My Country, ‘Tis of Thee and America the Beautiful.

In September 1814, during the war of 1812, after witnessing a 25-hour bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the poem “Defence of Fort M’Henry.” Later set to music, it became the Star Spangled Banner, and eventually our national anthem.

You can see my previous Fort McHenry post here.
